The Sound of Rain Summary

The Sound of Rain by Sarah Loudin Thomas. I have to be honest with you, normally I don’t read romantic novels, but this year I would like to get more in touch with romantic and sensual side of myself, that’s the reason I picked this book from library. By the way, This is also a Christian fiction book.
The writing style of this book is beautiful and lyrical. The two main characters are lovely, Larkin is a sweet southern belle, and Judd is a handsome and honest mountain man. I really enjoy reading the light romantic feeling in this story.
The Story Overview
The mine collapsed that nearly killed Judd Markley and took his brother’s life away, he know after that incident he could never set foot underground again, and that’s the reason he want to leave and to follow his brother’s dream to West Virginia although Appalachian was all he knew in his life.
Larkin Heyward is a Southern Belle, grew up from a wealthy family, didn’t need to worry about anything except volunteering as a candy-stripper in a local hospital. She has a very easy life, but in her heart, she has a desire to help people. Her dream is moving to the hills of Kentucky to help the poor from Appalachia.
They met each other at the first day Judd came to her father’s timber company for the interview. Judd and Larkin start to have a light friendship first, since she is a very friendly sweetheart. Hurricane Hazel hit Myrtle Beach and destruction was everywhere, Judd’s brother’s house in West Virginia got affected by the hurricane as well. Judd travels out there to help his brother and Larkin comes along with him by tricking him into this journey. On the way there she tells him the truth, once they arrive at his brother’s house, they spend the night and the next morning he tells her he is going to take her home, the main story is starting unfold from here.
I don’t want to spoil the whole story by telling the end.
What I like about this book
Romance –The romance in this book was just very sweet and appropriate. Lightly and slowly build romance between Judd and Larkin, it makes the book very enjoyable to read.
Main Characters — Judd is a loyal, hard working and honest guy, very reliable and good at all mechanics and tools. Not a Prince or Mr. Charming type, but a very good husband material. Larkin is a little bit childish at the beginning, but with a great heart, and very adorable sweet southern personality.
Written style — This is the first book I read written by Ms. Thomas, but I really like her beautiful written style. A little bit slow, but her story has tangible emotion with a sweet and spiritual thread.
What I don’t like about this book
The romance in the book is more like teenager style, I feel there is not enough passion about the romance, but I guess you can’t expect all the emotions in one book.
