A Man Called Ove Summary

I got this audible book from a friend, it has been sitting in my account for a long time. Recently I started listening to this book, immediately I was attracted to the author’s writing style and the most memorable and humor in special way character who is called Ove. “A Man Called Ove” is written by Fredrik Backman.
The story is setting in Sweden. Ove is the main character of the book. When you just start reading or listening the book, you probably think Ove is grumpy, difficult, opinionated, stubborn old man who is unwilling to adapt and unable to understand the thought process that drives as modern man in this technological era.
After you continue listening or reading the book, you actually start to think Ove is a wonderful and amazon person from inside which he hides really deep.
The Story Overview
Ove (pronounced as ‘Oo-veh’), his mother passed away when he is young, his father brought him up and taught him how to be a man, work, fix a car, cook, live and he also taught him that Saab was the best car to purchase, which Ove stayed loyal to that car for his life time.
Then because of an accident, he lost his father when he was 16. He took over his father’s job, but he became a hermit in a way that he didn’t talk or bother any people anymore. This leaves Ove with nothing to live on and that’s not the worst, he lost his job as well. He doesn’t know what to do with himself anymore. when his new neighbors move in, that is where the book gets really started. I won’t spoil your reading or listening and will stop right here.
Character of Ove
Ove was a grump, bitter, unhappy, miserable and mean man from the start of the book, until those neighbors moved in and started interact with Ove and brought him out of his shell. Finally and slowly he moved out of the grief about Sonja passed away. He became a family with everyone in the neighborhood and everyone needed him and he felt wanted. Thru the book, you can see he is an amazing person with a big heart!
What I Like About this Book
what I love the most about this books is that seems like a very serious situations for example he is trying to commit suicide, but end up hilarious each time. The scenes seem to be completed as a comic relief, but it can really pull on your heart strings, I went from laugh to tear while I listened to this book.
Second, I like how the author created the depth of the character and pull you in to love the person more and more each day.
What did I Learn from the Book
First, Don’t judge a book by the cover! Ove from outside is a very mean, miserable, grump man, but inside his heart, he is a kind and caring person. Action is more than millions of words!
Second, Look people more closely, not only from the outside but from the inside as well. Maybe in their heart they are crying out for attention and love, but from outside you can’t see or notice anything, we need to learn how to feel and sense all this from our heart.
